On Women's Equality Day, August 26, 2024, the Muncie-Delaware County League of Women Voters presented one of the Vivian Conley Awards to Qiana Clemens for distinction in educational advocacy.
Qiana Clemens brings a unique perspective and nearly twenty years of nonprofit leadership and experience to her profession. She currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Academic and Resource Development at Ivy Tech Community College, a role she loves but never envisioned having. She also serves as the Diversity Lead for the Ivy Tech Foundation. She has served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie, the Executive Director of the Roy C. Buley Community Center, and the Director of Marketing and Communications at the United Way of Delaware County and the YMCA of Muncie. Qiana received her B.S. degree from Ball State University and her masters from Indiana Wesleyan University. In 2020, Qiana became a Certified Fund-Raising Executive and she is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in strategic leadership for higher education at Liberty University with an anticipated completion date in May 2025.
Qiana serves on the Muncie Fire Merit Commission, the board of Directors at Hillcroft Services, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie Marketing & Development Committee. Qiana is a member of the Whitely Community Council, Muncie Chapter of the NAACP, Indiana Black Expo, Muncie – Delaware County Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Qiana, her husband Duane, and their two sons are very proud life-long residents of Muncie. When Qiana is not working or studying, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, participating in church, reading, volunteering, and advocating for youth and equity in education.
Women's Equality Day commemorates the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment which enfranchised women. The Muncie-Delaware County League of Women Voters partners with other women's organizations--the American Association of University Women, National Organization for Women, Indiana Women of Achievement, Friends of Conley and the Coalition of 100 Black Women--to honor Vivian Conley, a noted Muncie civil rights leader, and celebrate passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. The other awardees were Sarah Vitale, distinction in civic engagement; Curtisa Goodwin, distinction in social justice; Annette Phillips, distinction in economic empowerment; Valerie Helms Mejia, distinction in community service; and Tania Said, distinction in arts and culture.
